Maria Hines is the renowned chef/owner of Tilth in Seattle and a good friend of mine. She mentioned she was about to go on a trip to the Middle-East to do research for a second restaurant she was going to open with a Middle-East street food theme.
I told Maria she should hire me to shoot the food, people and places she'd be visiting and use the photos as the restaurant art. She decided in about 10 seconds on the spot and I was hired. We travelled to Istanbul, Cairo and Beirut and ate street food for two weeks. The photos from the trip can be seen on the walls of Maria's new restaurant: Golden Beetle.
